Superior Spider-Man (2023) #1

Alright, let’s talk about the new Superior Spider-Man. I dove into the first issue with high hopes, but here’s the scoop – it kind of leaves you hanging.

Otto doesn’t exactly step into the Superior Spider-Man shoes in this issue. And the previews for the upcoming ones? Super vague. Like, is he even going to become Superior anytime soon? It’s a bit sketchy, especially when you see him half in his Doc Ock getup on some of the covers.

Now, I get it. Comics can be slow burners with the storytelling, but if I’m picking up Superior Spider-Man #1, I’m expecting some Superior Spider-Man action by the end, you know? Maybe it’s just the classic case of dragging things out, but it’s a tough sell for someone expecting the full Superior experience right out of the gate. And I get it, Doctor Octopus might not be as catchy as Spider-Man, but still, the title’s a bit of a tease. Plus, for someone who’s been out of the Spidey loop for a bit, all the new lore can be a head-scratcher.
