I’ve been a fan of Gargoyles for as long as I can remember, so when I spotted this new issue, I couldn’t resist picking it up. “GARGOYLES: DARK AGES #1” delves deeper into the Gargoyles’ history, which is something I’ve been really looking forward to. It keeps some of the familiar characters from the main series that we all love, and it introduces some new faces to the Gargoyles clan, which is a nice addition.
The story is approachable, even for someone who hasn’t watched or read anything Gargoyles-related before. There’s some decent character development as we get to know Hudson, the leader of the clan, and two humans, Prince Malcolm and Robert, who approach the Gargoyles seeking an alliance for a war to reclaim something Prince Malcolm believes is rightfully his.
Drew Moss’s art in this issue is impressive. The character work is well done, and the attention to detail is remarkable. I particularly loved the page where they take flight into battle – you can see the detail in all the faces, even the ones farther back in the group.
All in all, I’m a big fan of “GARGOYLES: DARK AGES #1” and I’m eagerly looking forward to issue #2 to see how the war unfolds. It’s a great addition to the Gargoyles story.
